حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّهُ لَيَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلْعَالِمِ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَتَّى الْحِيتَانِ فِي الْبَحْرِ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Hisyam bin Ammar] berkata, telah menceritakan kepada kami [Hafsh bin Umar] dari [Utsman bin 'Atho`] dari [Bapaknya] dari [Abu Ad Darda`] ia berkata; "Aku mendengar Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Sesungguhnya akan memintakan ampun untuk seorang alim makhluk yang di langit dan di bumi hingga ikan hiu di dasar laut."

Imam Ibn Majah compiled the last of the six major hadith collections (Kutub al-Sittah). He travelled widely to collect hadiths — through Iraq, Basra, Syria, Egypt, and Arabia. His collection contains unique narrations not found in the other five collections, though scholars note some weaker chains.
Ibn Majah's collection was later added to the Kutub al-Sittah by Imam al-Maqdisi. It contains approximately 4,341 hadiths including narrations unique to this collection.
