حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ وَحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ الْعَجَلِيُّ قَالَا قَالَ وَكِيعٌالْبَعْلُ الْكَبُوسُ الَّذِي يَنْبُتُ مِنْ مَاءِ السَّمَاءِقَالَ ابْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ وَقَالَ يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ آدَمَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا إِيَاسٍ الْأَسَدِيَّ عَنْ الْبَعْلِ فَقَالَ الَّذِي يُسْقَى بِمَاءِ السَّمَاءِ و قَالَ النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ الْبَعْلُ مَاءُ الْمَطَرِ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada Kami [Al Haitsam bin Khalid Al Juahani] serta [Husain bin Al Aswad Al 'Ajali], ia berkata; [Waki'] berkata; Al Ba'lu dan Al Kabus adalah tanaman yang tumbuh dari air hujan. [Ibnu Al Aswad] berkata; dan [Yahya yaitu Ibnu Adam] berkata; aku bertanya kepada [Abu Iyaz Al Asadi] mengenai Al Ba'lu, kemudian ia berkata; yaitu yang disirami dengan air hujan. An Nadhr bin Syumail berkata; Al Ba'lu adalah air hujan.

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
