Tips for Completing the Quran
After Fajr is Best
The Prophet ๏ทบ said: 'The recitation of the Quran at dawn is ever witnessed.' (Quran 17:78). Many scholars recommend reading your daily portion after Fajr when the mind is clear and the hour is blessed.
Consistency Over Quantity
The Prophet ๏ทบ said: 'The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if small.' (Bukhari). Reading 5 pages daily without fail is better than reading 20 pages some days and none on others.
Tajweed & Tadabbur
Read with Tajweed (correct pronunciation) and Tadabbur (reflection). You don't have to choose one or the other โ the Salaf would often pause at a verse, reflect on it, then continue. Even one Ayah understood is greater than a hundred read without thought.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Khatm (Khatam) of the Quran?+
A Khatm (ุฎุชู ) means completing the full recitation of the Quran from Al-Fatiha to An-Nas. It is a greatly rewarded act. The Prophet ๏ทบ recommended completing the Quran at least once a month, and in Ramadan he would review it with Jibreel (AS) once per year (and twice in his final year). Many Muslims aim for multiple Khatms per year.
How long does it take to read the Quran?+
The Quran contains 604 pages (standard Madina mushaf), 30 Juz, and 6,236 verses. At a moderate pace of 20 pages per day, you complete a Khatm in 30 days. At 1 page per day it takes about 2 years. The Prophet ๏ทบ advised: 'Do not complete the Quran in less than three days, for whoever does so does not understand it.' (Abu Dawud)
What is the best way to divide daily reading?+
The Companions divided the Quran into 7 portions called Manzils for a weekly Khatm: Juz 1-2 (Mon), Juz 3-5 (Tue), Juz 6-8 (Wed), Juz 9-11 (Thu), Juz 12-16 (Fri), Juz 17-21 (Sat), Juz 22-30 (Sun). For a monthly Khatm, 1 Juz (20 pages) daily is the classical recommendation.
What is the reward for completing the Quran?+
The Prophet ๏ทบ said: 'Whoever reads one letter from the Book of Allah will have a Hasanah (good deed) for it, and the Hasanah is multiplied by ten. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.' (Tirmidhi) Scholars estimate there are over 300,000 letters in the Quran โ that's over 3 million deeds per Khatm.
Is it better to read quickly or slowly and reflect?+
Both have merit. Tarteel (slow, reflective reading with Tajweed) is superior for understanding and reward per letter. However, completing a Khatm โ even at a moderate pace โ brings its own great reward. Ibn Abbas (RA) preferred completing the Quran to reading one Surah with deep reflection. A balanced approach is to read at tarteel pace while aiming for a monthly Khatm.
Can I split my reading between morning and evening?+
Yes. Many scholars recommend dividing your daily portion โ reading half after Fajr and half after Asr or Isha. This mirrors the Prophet's ๏ทบ practice of recitation at Fajr time. Starting with Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays, or reciting Al-Mulk every night before sleep, are also recommended practices.
