The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Bukhari 5027). Hifz (memorization) is one of the most honoured acts of worship in Islam — and spaced repetition with flashcards is one of the most scientifically proven methods to retain information long-term. Start with reading the Quran with translation to build familiarity before memorizing.
Begin with the short surahs at the end of the Quran (78–114). They are shorter, commonly recited in daily prayer, and build momentum for longer surahs like Al-Baqarah and Al-Kahf.
Use 'Hide Arabic' mode to understand the meaning first. Knowing what a verse means makes the Arabic 10x easier to retain.
Recite your memorized surahs in every Fajr and Isha prayer. Regular use in Salah is the strongest memory reinforcement available.
Progress through Hide Translation → Hide Arabic → Hide Both as you grow confident. The final mode mirrors real Salah conditions.
The scholarly consensus across all four major madhabs is that memorizing the Quran is a communal obligation (fard kifayah). Every Muslim community must have Huffaz (those who have memorized the full Quran) to preserve its oral transmission. You can verify these hadith references on Sunnah.com.
"The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Quran will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels)."
Bukhari 5027
"It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse you recite."
Ibn Majah 3781
"The Quran will come on the Day of Judgment and will intercede for its companion."
Tirmidhi 2914

Yes. Verses you mark as 'I Knew It' are saved in your browser's local storage under a unique key per verse reference. They persist as long as you use the same browser and device.
Both Arabic and translation are hidden when the card loads. Recite the verse from memory, then press Reveal to check yourself. This is the most challenging and effective practice mode for strengthening Hifz.
Start with 'Hide Translation' to test your understanding of the Arabic. Move to 'Hide Arabic' once you know the meaning, then practice 'Hide Both' for full recall. Review memorized verses daily in your prayers for retention.
