حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ إِسْمَعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَرِيَّةً إِلَى خَثْعَمٍ فَاعْتَصَمَ نَاسٌ مِنْهُمْ بِالسُّجُودِ فَأَسْرَعَ فِيهِمْ الْقَتْلَ قَالَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ بِنِصْفِ الْعَقْلِ وَقَالَ أَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِنْ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يُقِيمُ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِمَ قَالَ لَا تَرَاءَى نَارَاهُمَاقَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد رَوَاهُ هُشَيْمٌ وَمَعْمَرٌ وَخَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ وَجَمَاعَةٌ لَمْ يَذْكُرُوا جَرِيرًا
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Hannad bin As Sarri], telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Mu'awiyah], dari [Isma'il], dari [Qais] dari [Jarir bin Abdullah], ia berkata; Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam telah mengirim kami dalam sebuah kesatuan militer menuju Khats'am, kemudian orang-orang diantara mereka berlindung dengan bersujud, kemudian cepat terjadi pembunuhan diantara mereka. Lalu hal tersebut sampai kepada Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, dan beliau memerintahkan agar mereka diberi setengah diyah. Dan beliau berkata: "Aku berlepas diri dari setiap muslim yang bermukim di antara orang-orang musyrik." Mereka bertanya; kenapa wahai Rasulullah? Beliau berkata: kedua api peperangan mereka saling melihat. Abu Daud berkata; hadits tersebut diriwayatkan oleh Husyaim dan Ma'mar, Khalid Al Wasithi, serta beberapa orang-orang, mereka tidak menyebutkan Jarir.

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
