حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ وَأَزْهَرُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدًاعَنْ سَهْمِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالصَّفِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ يُضْرَبُ لَهُ بِسَهْمٍ مَعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَشْهَدْ وَالصَّفِيُّ يُؤْخَذُ لَهُ رَأْسٌ مِنْ الْخُمُسِ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Basysyar], telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu 'Ashim], dan [Azhar], mereka berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ibnu 'Aun] ia berkata; saya bertanya kepada [Muhammad] mengenai saham Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam serta shafi. Ia berkata; dahulu beliau diberi satu saham bersama orang-orang muslim walaupun beliau tidak menghadiri peperangan. Sedangkan shafi diambilkan untuk beliau pokok dari seperlima sebelum segala sesuatu.

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
