حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ قَالَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَأْتِينِي الرَّجُلُ فَيُرِيدُ مِنِّي الْبَيْعَ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي أَفَأَبْتَاعُهُ لَهُ مِنْ السُّوقِ فَقَالَ لَا تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Musaddad] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu 'Awanah] dari [Abu Bisyr] dari [Yusuf bin Mahik] dari [Hakim bin Hizam] ia berkata, "Wahai Rasulullah, seorang laki-laki datang kepadaku ingin membeli sesuatu yang tidak aku miliki, apakah boleh aku membelikan untuknya dari pasar? Beliau bersabda: "Janganlah engkau menjual apa yang tidak engkau miliki!"

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
