حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتٌ الْحَدَّادُ حَدَّثَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ قَيْسٍ بِنْتَ مِحْصَنٍ تَقُولُسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ دَمِ الْحَيْضِ يَكُونُ فِي الثَّوْبِ قَالَ حُكِّيهِ بِضِلْعٍ وَاغْسِلِيهِ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Musaddad] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Yahya bin Sa'id Al Qaththan] dari [Sufyan] telah menceritakan kepadaku [Tsabit Al-Haddad] telah menceritakan kepadaku [Adi bin Dinar] dia berkata; Saya mendengar [Ummu Qais binti Mihshan] berkata; Saya pernah bertanya kepada Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam tentang darah haidl yang mengenai pakaian. Beliau bersabda: "Gosoklah dengan kayu dan cucilah dengan air dan daun bidara".

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
