حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْحِمْصِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ قَالَ هِشَامٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْغَازِالْمُضَرَّجَةُ الَّتِي لَيْسَتْ بِمُشَبَّعَةٍ وَلَا الْمُوَرَّدَةُ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Amru bin Utsman Al Himshi] berkata, telah menceritakan kepada kami [Al Walid] ia berkata, " [Hisyam] -maksudnya hisyam bin Al Ghaz- berkata, "yang dimaksud dengan al mudharrajah (kain yang dicelup dengan warna merah) adalah; yang tidak sempurna warna merahnya (penuh kemerahannya) serta tidak warna mawar."

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
