حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَاقْتُلُوا الْحَيَّاتِ كُلَّهَا إِلَّا الْجَانَّ الْأَبْيَضَ الَّذِي كَأَنَّهُ قَضِيبُ فِضَّةٍقَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد فَقَالَ لِي إِنْسَانٌ الْجَانُّ لَا يَنْعَرِجُ فِي مِشْيَتِهِ فَإِذَا كَانَ هَذَا صَحِيحًا كَانَتْ عَلَامَةً فِيهِ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Amru bin Aun] berkata, telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Abu Awanah] dari [Mughirah] dari [Ibrahim] dari [Ibnu Mas'ud] ia berkata, "Bunuhlah semua ular, kecuali ular yang bergaris putih seakan pedang dari perak." Abu Dawud berkata, lalu ada seorang berkata kepadaku "Ular itu tidak bisa mendaki saat merayap, jika itu benar maka insyaallah itu adalah salah satu dari tandanya."

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
