حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ وَابْنُ السَّرْحِ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ فِيهِ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَعْرِفُ فَصْلَ السُّورَةِ حَتَّى تَنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِوَهَذَا لَفْظُ ابْنِ السَّرْحِ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah bin Sa'id] dan [Ahmad bin Muhammad Al Marwazi] serta [Ibnu Sarh] mereka mengatakan telah menceritakan kepada kami [Sufyan] dari ['Amru] dari [Sa'id bin Jubair] -Qutaibah mengatakan dalam riwayat tersebut- dari [Ibnu Abbas] dia berkata; "Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam tidak mengetahui pemisah antar surat hingga diturunkan kepada beliau "Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim" (dengan menyebut nama Allah yang maha pengasih lagi maha penyayang). Lafadz ini dari Ibnu As Sarh."

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
