حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْأَبَّارُ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍعَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ أَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ مَا يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَيْسَ لَكَ وَلَا لِأَصْحَابِكَ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Utsman bin Abu Syaibah] berkata, telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Hafs Al Abbar] dari [A'masy] dari [Amru bin Murrah] dari [Abu Ubaidah] dari [Abdullah bin Mas'ud] dari Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, beliau bersabda: "Sesungguhnya Allah itu ganjil, menyukai yang ganjil, maka laksanakanlah witir wahai ahli Qur'an. " Kemudian seorang badui berkata, "Apa yang dikatakan Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam?" Beliau bersabda: "Bukan bagimu dan bukan pula bagi teman-temanmu. "

Imam Ibn Majah compiled the last of the six major hadith collections (Kutub al-Sittah). He travelled widely to collect hadiths — through Iraq, Basra, Syria, Egypt, and Arabia. His collection contains unique narrations not found in the other five collections, though scholars note some weaker chains.
Ibn Majah's collection was later added to the Kutub al-Sittah by Imam al-Maqdisi. It contains approximately 4,341 hadiths including narrations unique to this collection.
