أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رِزْمَةَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ الْهِلَالَ فَقَالَ أَتَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَنَادَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ صُومُوا
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Muhammad bin 'Abdul 'Aziz bin Abu Rizmah] dia berkata; telah memberitakan kepada kami [Al Fadhl bin Musa] dari [Sufyan] dari [Simak] dari ['Ikrimah] dari [Ibnu 'Abbas] dia berkata; "Seorang Badui datang kepada Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam ia berkata aku melihat hilal, beliau bersabda: 'Apakah engkau bersaksi bahwa tiada tuhan yang patut disembah selain Allah dan Muhammad adalah hamba dan utusanNya? ' ia menjawab iya, kemudian Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam mengumumkan agar berpuasa."

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
