أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Ar Rabi' bin Sulaiman] dia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ibnu Wahb] dia berkata; telah mengabarkan kepadaku [Yunus] dari [Ibnu Syihab] dia berkata; telah menceritakan kepadaku [Salim bin 'Abdullah] bahwasanya ['Abdullah bin 'Umar] berkata; Aku mendengar Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Jika kalian melihat hilal, berpuasalah dan jika kalian melihatnya, berbukalah. Jika -hilal- itu tertutup dari pandangan kalian, perkirakanlah untuknya."

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
