أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَعَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ لَا نَكْتُبُ وَلَا نَحْسُبُ الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا ثَلَاثًا حَتَّى ذَكَرَ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Al Mutsanna] dia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami ['Abdurrahman] dari [Sufyan] dari [Al Aswad bin Qais] dari [Sa'id bin 'Amru] dari [Ibnu 'Umar] dari Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Sesungguhnya kita adalah umat yang ummi (buta huruf), kita tidak bisa menulis dan tidak bisa menghitung, satu bulan itu begini, begini dan begini -tiga kali-hingga beliau menyebutkan dua puluh sembilan hari."

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
