أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَعْيَنَ وَأَبُو جَعْفَرٍ يَعْنِي النُّفَيْلِيَّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَذْبَحُوا إِلَّا مُسِنَّةً إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْسُرَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَذْبَحُوا جَذَعَةً مِنْ الضَّأْنِ
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Abu Daud Sulaiman bin Saif], ia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Al Hasan yaitu Ibnu A'yan] dan [Abu Ja'far yaitu An Nufaili] mereka berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Zuhair], ia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Az Zubair] dari [Jabir], ia berkata; Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Janganlah kalian menyembelih kecuali domba yang berumur dua tahun, kecuali mengalami kesulitan maka sembelihlah yang berumur satu tahun."

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
