أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ مَطَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي شَيْخٍ قَالَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي بَعْضِ حَجَّاتِهِ إِذْ جَمَعَ رَهْطًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ لُبْسِ الذَّهَبِ إِلَّا مُقَطَّعًا قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْخَالَفَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَلَى اخْتِلَافٍ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَيْهِ
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Ahmad bin Harb] ia berkata; telah memberitakan kepada kami [Asbath] dari [Mughirah] dari [Mathar] dari [Abu Syaikh] ia berkata, "Ketika kami sedang bersama [Mu'awiyah] dalam salah satu perjalanan hajinya, ia mengumpulkan sejumlah sahabat Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, ia lalu berkata kepada mereka, "Bukankah kamu telah mengetahui bahwa Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam telah melarang memakai emas kecuali potongan kecil?" mereka menjawab, "Tentu." Yahya bin Abu Katsir menyelisihinya berdasar pada perselisihan yang terjadi antara sahabatnya.

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
