حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ مُقَرِّنٍ عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ رُكُوبِ الْمَيَاثِرِقَالَ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ وَحَدِيثُ الْبَرَاءِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رَوَى شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ نَحْوَهُ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ali bin Hujr] berkata, telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Ali bin Mushir] berkata, telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Ishaq Asy Syaibani] dari [Asy'ats bin Abu Asy Sya'tsa] dari [Mu'awiyah bin Suwaid bin Muqarrin] dari [Al Bara bin Azib] ia berkata, "Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam melarang kami menggunakan pelana yang terbuat dari kain bersulam emas." Perawi berkata, "Dalam hadits ini terdapat kisah. Ia berkata, "Dalam bab ini juga ada hadits dari Ali dan Mu'awiyah. Hadits Al Bara derajatnya hasan shahih. [Syu'bah] juga telah meriwayatkan dari [Asy'ats bin Abu Asy Sya'tsa] seperti hadits tersebut. Dan dalam hadits tersebut juga terdapat kisah."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
