حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ قَالَكَانُوا يَرْتَجُونَ الْحُمَّى لَيْلَةً كَفَّارَةً لِمَا نَقَصَ مِنْ الذُّنُوبِ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ishaq bin Manshur] dia berkata; telah mengabarkan kepada kami ['Abdurrahman bin Mahdi] dari [Sufyan Ats Tsauri] dari [Hisyam bin Hassan] dari [Al Hasan] dia berkata, "Mereka para sahabat mengharap sakit demam di malam hari sebagai kafarah. Yakni sebagai kafarah untuk mengurangi dosa-dosa."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
