حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ قَالَقُلْتُ لِلْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ أَيْنَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضَعُ وَجْهَهُ إِذَا سَجَدَ فَقَالَ بَيْنَ كَفَّيْهِقَالَ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ وَائِلِ بْنِ حُجْرٍ وَأَبِي حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ الْبَرَاءِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ وَهُوَ الَّذِي اخْتَارَهُ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ تَكُونَ يَدَاهُ قَرِيبًا مِنْ أُذُنَيْهِ
English Translation
telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah] berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Hafsh bin Ghiyats] dari [Al Hajjaj] dari [Abu Ishaq] ia berkata; "Aku bertanya kepada [Al Barra` bin 'Azib]; Dimanakah Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam meletakkan wajahnya ketika sujud?" ia menjawab, "Antara dua telapak tangannya." Ia berkata; "Dalam bab ini ada juga hadits dari Wa'il bin Hujr dan Abu Humaid." Abu Isa berkata; "Hadits Al Barra` derajatnya hasan shahih gharib. Dan inilah yang menjadi pilihan sebagian ahli ilmu, yaitu kedua tangan hendaknya dekat dengan kedua telinganya."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
