حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ عَنْ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ قَالَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَرَوْنَ شَيْئًا مِنْ الْأَعْمَالِ تَرْكُهُ كُفْرٌ غَيْرَ الصَّلَاةِقَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى سَمِعْت أَبَا مُصْعَبٍ الْمَدَنِيَّ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَالَ الْإِيمَانُ قَوْلٌ يُسْتَتَابُ فَإِنْ تَابَ وَإِلَّا ضُرِبَتْ عُنُقُهُ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Bisyr bin al Mufadhdhal] dari [al Jurairi] dari [Abdullah bin Syaqiq al Uqaili] dia berkata; Dahulu para sahabat Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam tidak berpendapat sesuatu dari amal perbuatan yang mana meninggalkannya adalah suatu kekufuran melainkan shalat." Abu Isa berkata; 'Saya mendengar Abu Mush'ab al Madani berkata; 'Barangsiapa yang berpendapat bahwa iman adalah suatu perkataan saja, maka dia diminta untuk bertaubat, apabila dia bertaubat (maka diterimalah taubatnya), namun jika tidak (bertaubat) maka lehernya dipenggal."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
