حَدَّثَنَا بِذَلِكَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْخَلَّالُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي غِفَارٍ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الطَّائِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سُلَيمٍ قَالَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ لَا تَقُلْ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَلَكِنْ قُلْ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَوَذَكَرَ قِصَّةً طَوِيلَةً وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami seperti itu [Al Hasan bin Ali Al Khallal] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Usamah] dari [Abu Ghifar Al Mutsanna bin Sa'id Ath Tha`i] dari [Abu Tamimah Al Hujaimi] dari [Jabir bin Sulaim] ia berkata; Aku datang menemui Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam sambil mengucapkan; 'ALAIKASSALAAM." Beliau bersabda: "Jangan ucapkan 'ALAIKASSALAAM, tapi ucapkanlah; ASSALAAMU 'ALAIKA." Lalu perawi menyebutkan kisah yang panjang. Dan hadits ini hasan shahih.

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
