حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ فِي تَفْسِيرِ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَمَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ مِنْ سَمَاءٍ وَلَا أَرْضٍ أَعْظَمَ مِنْ آيَةِ الْكُرْسِيِّ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ لِأَنَّ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ هُوَ كَلَامُ اللَّهِ وَكَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Isma'il] ia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Al Humaidi] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Sufyan bin 'Uyainah] tentang penafsiran hadits Abdulah bin Mas'ud, ia berkata; "Tidaklah Allah menciptakan langit dan bumi yang lebih agung melebihi ayat kursi." Sufyan berkata; "Karena ayat kursi adalah kalam Allah dan kalam Allah lebih agung dari ciptaan Allah seperti langit dan bumi."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
