حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى{ وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَى مِائَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ }قَالَ عِشْرُونَ أَلْفًاقَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Ali bin Hujr] telah mengkhabarkan kepada kami [Al Walid bin Muslim] dari [Zuhair bin Muhammad] dari [seseorang] dari [Abu Al Aliyah] dari [Ubai bin Ka'ab] berkata: Aku bertanya kepada Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa Salam tentang firman Allah Ta'ala: "Dan kami utus dia kepada seratus ribu orang atau lebih." (Ash Shaaffaat: 147) beliau bersabda: "Duapuluh ribu." Abu Isa berkata: Hadits ini gharib.

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
