حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَا أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الضَّبِّيُّ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ بِمَكَّةَ حَجَرًا كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيَّ لَيَالِيَ بُعِثْتُ إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُهُ الْآنَقَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Basyar] dan [Mahmud bin Ghailan] keduanya berkata; telah memberitakan kepada kami [Abu Daud Ath Thayalisi] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Sulaiman bin Mu'adz Adl Dlabbi] dari [Simak bin Harb] dari [Jabir bin Samurah] dia berkata; Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Sesungguhnya di kota Makkah terdapat sebongkah batu (hajar aswad) yang mengucapkan salam kepadaku pada malam hari dimana aku diutus, sedangkan sekarang aku benar-benar mengetahuinya." Perawi (Abu Isa) berkata; "Hadits ini derajatnya hasan shahih gharib."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
