حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّي أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ فَشَرِبْتُ مِنْهُ فَأَعْطَيْتُ فَضْلِي عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ قَالُوا فَمَا أَوَّلْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الْعِلْمَقَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah bin Sa'id] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Laits] dari ['Uqail] dari [Zuhri] dari [Hamzah bin Abdillah bin Umar] dari [Abdullah bin Umar] dia berkata; saya mendengar Rasulullah Shallallahu'alaihi wa Sallam bersabda: "Aku telah bermimpi seakan Aku diberi segelas susu dan meminum sebagiannya, dan selebihnya aku berikan kepada Umar bin Khaththab." Mereka (para sahabat) bertanya; "Apa yang anda takwilkan dari mimpi itu wahai Rasulullah?" beliau menjawab, "Itulah Ilmu." Perawi (Abu Isa) berkata; "Hadits ini adalah hadits hasan shahih gharib."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
