حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَصُومُوا قَبْلَ رَمَضَانَ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ حَالَتْ دُونَهُ غَيَايَةٌ فَأَكْمِلُوا ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْمًاوَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبِي بَكْرَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah] telah menceritakan kepada kami [Abu Al Ahwash] dari [Simak bin Harb] dari [Ikrimah] dari [Ibnu Abbas] dia berkata Rasulullah Shallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: " Janganlah kalian berpuasa sehari sebelum Ramadlan dan mulailah berpuasa setelah melihat hilal serta berbukalah (yaitu akhir bulan Ramadlan) setelah melihat hilal, jika cuaca mendung genapkanlah hitungan tiga puluh hari". Dalam bab ini (ada juga riwayat -pent) dari Abu Hurairah, Abu Bakrah dan Ibnu Umar. Abu 'Isa berkata, hadits Ibnu Abbas merupakan hadits hasan shahih dan telah diriwayatkan melalui lebih dari satu jalur.

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
