حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَقَ هُوَ الْقُرَشِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ قَالَسَأَلْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَ السُّنَّةُ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْعِمَامَةِ فَقَالَ أَمِسَّ الشَّعَرَ الْمَاءَ
English Translation
telah menceritakan kepada kami [Qutaibah bin Sa'id] berkata, telah menceritakan kepada kami [Bisyr bin Al Mufaddlal] dari [Abdurrahman bin Ishaq Al Qurasyi], dari [Abu Ubaidah bin Muhammad bin 'Ammar bin Yasir] ia berkata; "Aku pernah bertanya kepada [Jabir bin Abdullah] tentang mengusap kedua khuf, lalu dia menjawab, "Itu adalah sunnah wahai anak saudaraku." berkata; Dan aku juga bertanya kepadanya tentang mengusap Imamah, maka ia menjawab, "Usaplah rambut dengan air."

Imam at-Tirmidhi was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His collection is distinctive for including the grading (hasan, sahih, da'if) of each hadith alongside notes on which madhab (legal school) relies on it — making it both a hadith collection and a work of hadith criticism.
Jami' at-Tirmidhi is the only collection in the Kutub al-Sittah where the compiler grades every hadith himself, notes scholarly differences, and indicates legal usage.
