حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ جُهْدُ الْمُقِلِّ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada Kami [Qutaibah bin Sa'id], serta [Yazid bin Khalid bin Mauhib Ar Ramli], mereka berkata; telah menceritakan kepada Kami [Al Laits] dari [Abu Az Zubair] dari [Yahya bin Ja'dah] dari [Abu Hurairah] bahwa ia berkata; wahai Rasulullah, sedekah apakah yang lebih utama? Beliau bersabda: "Kadar yang mampu ditanggung orang fakir, dan mulailah dari orang yang engkau tanggung."

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
