حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي فَزَارَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أُمِرْتُ بِتَشْيِيدِ الْمَسَاجِدِقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لَتُزَخْرِفُنَّهَا كَمَا زَخْرَفَتْ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى
English Translation
Telah menceritakan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Ash Shabbah bin Sufyan] telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Sufyan bin 'Uyainah] dari [Sufyan Ats Tsauri] dari [Abu Fazarah] dari [Yazid bin Al Ashamm] dari [Ibnu Abbas] dia berkata; Rasulullah Shallallahu alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Saya tidaklah diperintahkan untuk menghiasi masjid-masjid." Ibnu Abbas berkata; Sungguh kalian akan menghiasi Masjid-masjid sebagaimana orang-orang yahudi dan nasrani menghiasi (tempat ibadah mereka).

Imam Abu Dawud compiled Sunan Abu Dawud from approximately 500,000 hadiths, selecting 5,274. His collection is particularly focused on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and legal rulings. He personally wrote to Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal informing him of the work, and received his approval.
Abu Dawud said: 'I wrote 500,000 hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ, then selected this book from them.' He focused especially on rulings related to halal and haram.
