حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُطَرِّفٌ أَنَّ عَامِرًا حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُهَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ شَيْءٌ مِنْ الْوَحْيِ إِلَّا مَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا وَالَّذِي فَلَقَ الْحَبَّةَ وَبَرَأَ النَّسَمَةَ مَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا فَهْمًا يُعْطِيهِ اللَّهُ رَجُلًا فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَمَا فِي هَذِهِ الصَّحِيفَةِ قُلْتُ وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ قَالَ الْعَقْلُ وَفَكَاكُ الْأَسِيرِ وَأَنْ لَا يُقْتَلَ مُسْلِمٌ بِكَافِرٍ
English Translation
Telah bercerita kepada kami [Ahmad bin Yunus] telah bercerita kepada kami [Zuhair] telah bercerita kepada kami [Muthorrif] bahwa ['Amir] bercerita kepada mereka dari [Abu Juhaifah radliallahu 'anhu] berkata, aku bertanya kepada ['Ali Radliallahu 'anhu]; "Apakah kalian menyimpan wahyu lain selain yang ada pada Kitab Allah?". Dia menjawab; "Tidak. Demi Dzat Yang Menumbuhkan butir tumbuh-tumbuhan dan Yang Menciptakan jiwa, aku tidak mengetahuinya kecuali pemahaman yang Allah berikan kepada seseorang tentang Al Qur'an dan apa yang ada pada shahifah (manuskrip) ini". Aku bertanya; "Apa yang dimaksud dengan shahifah itu?". Dia menajwab; "Membayar diat, membebaskan tawanan, dan jangan sampai seorang muslim terbunuh oleh orang kafir".

Imam al-Bukhari dedicated 16 years to compiling Sahih al-Bukhari, selecting approximately 7,275 hadiths from over 600,000 narrations he examined. His strict conditions for accepting a hadith — requiring narrator continuity, reliable memory, and confirmed meeting between narrators — make it the most rigorously authenticated hadith collection in Islamic scholarship.
Imam al-Bukhari would perform ghusl and pray two rak'ahs before recording each hadith. Sahih al-Bukhari is universally regarded as the most authentic book after the Quran.
