أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَرَأْسُهُ وَلِحْيَتُهُ كَأَنَّهُ ثَغَامَةٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيِّرُوا أَوْ اخْضِبُوا
English Translation
Telah mengabarkan kepada kami [Muhammad bin Abdul A'la] ia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Khalid] -yaitu Ibnul Harits- ia berkata; telah menceritakan kepada kami [Azrah] -yaitu Ibnu Tsabit- dari [Abu Az Zubair] - dari [Jabir] ia berkata, "Didatangkan Abu Quhafah kepada Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam, sementara rambut dan janggutnya seperti Tsaghamah (semacam tumbuhan yang bunganya berwarna putih). Maka Nabi shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam pun bersabda: "Ubah dan catlah rambutmu."

Imam an-Nasa'i applied the strictest conditions of all Sunan compilers. He first wrote a larger collection (as-Sunan al-Kubra) then condensed it into al-Mujtaba. He was particularly rigorous in identifying weaknesses in narrator chains, resulting in a collection of very high reliability.
An-Nasa'i's conditions for accepting narrators were stricter than those of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, making al-Mujtaba one of the most critically refined of the Sunan collections.
